ALL THE MOURNFUL VOICES

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Invulnerable Nothings was pleased to present the world premier of Matthew Gasda’s All The Mournful Voices. This purgatorial bar play is a meditation on the death of Abraham Lincoln and shared cultural legacy. All The Mournful Voices opened April 15, 2022, 157 years to the day after Booth’s assassination of the President, in a fully sold out site responsive run at Forgotten Works, a former 19th century stables in DUMBO Brooklyn. It is staged in an intimate, environmental style for small audiences, with the action lit entirely by gaslight. The text was originally developed by the company alongside the playwright as part of Barn Lab 2021.

“I can't recall ever feeling so immersed into the world of a play(…) with the excellent company (George Olesky, Derrick Peterson, Charlie Munn and Jake Robertson) so perfectly playing the extreme intimacy of the room that I could truly see myself as a nearby customer, sitting in a corner of the bar silently observing the quartet.”

-Michael Dale, BroadwayWorld

“Like Sarte’s No Exit but way more interesting and entertaining”

-Evil Thespian

“All The Mournful Voices is a triumph. Invulnerable Nothings have done wonders with an inconspicuous space in DUMBO, utilizing a sparing set and a few gaslit torches (set and lighting design is by Margot Mayer) in immersing a small audience into an 1865 tavern. Director C.C. Kellogg has cast an eerily mournful spell–it truly feels like death has joined us in the room.”
